Dan, You're not entirely off, though the only relationship I know/see is that of computing fixed-points, which are of course a very general concept. As you know, fixed-points show up in all areas of mathematics (analysis, group theory, etc.), and in general idea of ending up where you started out has its own appeal... Shriram
