One thing that we strongly encourage at the Hackathon is that people
program in pairs, so that one person is piloting at the keyboard and one
person co-pilots next to them.

I think that would be especially beneficial for your son, and also
whoever pairs with him (as a teaching opportunity).

(As a general meta-note, if you're at the Hackathon and you're not a
 Racket developer, grab a developer who looks free and make them program
 with you)
