The projects that they did :-) The language is boring. 
BUT they followed the one strategy that works all the 
time: 

 -- make the syntax look like something people know 
 -- change small things 
 -- sell the entire thing as a small incremental change 
 -- treat programming in the language as an adventure in domain X 
	X = image processing here 
 -- make it look sexy = visual for CS people 

Voila, you have the appeal for the 'man on the street'. 

But reading their book will inspire Stephen with projects.
