For me, the behavior seems related to the Firebug extension in Firefox. If disable Firebug, the delay doesn't occur. It needs to be disabled through the Tools->Add Ons menu. Disabling it just for localhost does not work. I don't see the delay in Opera or IE. -Eddie Sullivan
