Probably if you count amount of Perl, Ruby, Tcl, Python etc. communities
having its own language version and compare this with count of Scheme 
clans, the scornful context of your questions will disappear.
I hope so.

OTOH, portability of scheme code is not very important problem
just because scheme is rarely used in serious commercial projects.
And vice versa, Scheme is rarely used in serious commercial projects
because it doesn't have time-proven standard and real-world
libraries based this standard.

As Marc said, diversity is the strength of Scheme, but IMHO lack of
common denominator is a weakness.
