[plt-scheme] What does the Scheme file extension ".ss" stand for?

I've never had a conflict with other software when using .ss, but have with
.scm (schema files).  I seem to remember one project management package I
used in the past also used .scm (and .sch), but I can't find anything like
that listed under Google - so it may be another senior moment.
