The 3xx to 4xx changes are more substantial than changes in the past.
However, as Jens points out: just grab an installer and run two
versions on your system; they won't fight, and you can start using the
tutorial/get familiar with where things are going.

And besides, Matthew Flatt doesn't write broken code... there's just
code that he hasn't finished yet.
