If background colors are light and pastel, or only different grades of 
the same color, maybe it could be less annoying to you. However, if 
multiple color highlighting parentheses are, hypothetically, 
implemented, then one color highlighting can be seen as a special case, 
which can be turned on/off with one hypothetical check box in the 
preferences, so all tastes can be satisfied.
