It sounds like *exactly* what I'm lookng for, but I can't find such a 
button on the preferences dialog.  I'm using
   DrScheme, version 352, english 
according to Help->About DrSchame 

I presume the preferences dialog you're talking about is what I get to 
using the Edit->Preferences menu item.  It opens a window with lots of 
tabs, and I didn't see "white on black" in any of them.

Perhaps you could give me more details?  I've missed the obvious more 
than once in my life ...
