[plt-scheme] configuration failure on FreeBSD

On FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p5 :

    ./configure --prefix=$HOME/local/stow/plt
    configure: WARNING: you should use --build, --host, --target
    checking for gcc... gcc
...
    checking for ranlib... ranlib
    checking for strip... strip
    ltconfig: you must specify a LTMAIN file
    Try `ltconfig --help' for more information.
    configure: error: libtool configure failed
    configure: error: /usr/local/bin/bash './configure' failed for foreign/gcc/libffi

    Compilation exited abnormally with code 1 at Mon Mar  6 20:58:54

The relevant config.logs are attached.
