When using Emacs with Quack to edit Scheme code, you can have the
unshifted square-bracket keys insert parentheses.  See menu option:

    Quack -> Options -> [X] Smart Open-Paren

Quack is available from "http://www.neilvandyke.org/quack/", and also
through the network package managers of some GNU/Linux distributions,
such as Debian.
