First, if this is explained somewhere in the docs, please just point out
to me where, because I haven't been able to find it.

It seems that inside the DrScheme environment (v209), doing a
(read)/(read-line)/etc is very slow.

specifically, if, say, I do a (read-line) then give it a big blob of
text, it will take a while to handle it (I'll see it slowly turn from
light green to dark green) and only then will it "release" and let
execution continue.

This doesn't seem to happen in the mred "console mode", for instance.

Is there some way to speed this up inside drscheme? What's it doing
that's taking it extra time?

Again, sorry if this is explained somewhere in the docs, but if so, I
haven't found it.

Thanks.
