I'm going to guess that the error comes from the XML
parser, and the XML sent by Livejournal is incorrect.   I
would try using a packet sniffer like ethereal to see what
is happening on the wire.

You almost certainly do.  It is in your collections
directory, the location of which depends on your system; it
is .plt-scheme/208/collects on my Linux PC.
