[plt-dev] DrDr slowdown @ r16860

Sorry for all the bad commits.

A group of us are working on MzScheme internals for a few days. To keep
things simple, we've been collaborating via the trunk --- but we know
that isn't working well for everyone else. We'll use a branch next
time.
