[plt-scheme] Unix install (was Version Check)

We're working very hard on this very issue. In fact, I just sent a
message about it:

but I didn't mention the Unix-install issue explicitly. I tried to
sketch a picture of a dozen things that get fixed at the same time.

And we don't try to live in our own world; we try to live in three
different worlds: Windows, Mac OS X, and Unix. It's difficult to do
that well, but we'll keep trying.

We could use some help. Whether it's the filesystem layout, the package
format, or anything else that bothers you, please help us fix it.
