[plt-scheme] Question on Teaching Scheme with DrScheme

I'd certainly try to introduce a 12 year-old to Scheme, but would be
very careful not to let him/her get frustrated and decide they'll "never
be good at this."

I don't know how ideal the TeachScheme ("http://www.teach-scheme.org/")
materials are for a 12yo. Perhaps with extra mentoring they might work.

For general background on kids and programming, take a look at Seymour
Papert's constructionist learning work, such as with Logo.

Also see Alan Kay's current project, Squeak ("http://www.squeak.org/"),
which emphasizes multimedia programming as a medium of expression for
children. A few years back, in HOPL, he published a really great
retrospective of the Smalltalk group at PARC, which discusses their
early work with kids (sorry, don't think it's online).
